Donald Ray “Donnie” Myers, 61, of Lake Charles, passed away in the comfort of his home.
Mr. Myers lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He attended Lake Charles High School and at 17 proudly began his service with the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of American Legion Post #370 where he held many elected offices. He worked as a carpenter in the construction industry, primarily construction, until he was no longer physically able. Mr. Myers lived a few years in Miami, FL, Clarksville, TN and Las Vegas, NV. During that time he and his wife opened Blue Bayou and LaJolie Fem Restaurants in Clarksville where they hosted a crawfish boil serving 900 pounds of crawfish to their community. They also hosted the first Mardi Gras Parade in Clarksville. Mr. Myers enjoyed his annual deer hunting trip in North LA. He will be most remembered for his love and devotion to his wife and his pride in being a grandfather.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of twenty seven years, Julie Long Myers of Lake Charles; three sons, Shannon Ray Myers (Connie) of Sulphur; Loren Ash Long (Stacy) of Lake Charles and Lucas Ball of Westlake; three daughters, Jaclyn Myers Floyd of Ragley; Tonya Myers of Houston, TX; Tarah Myers of Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; one brother, Charles Myers (Debbie) of Lake Charles and two sisters, Patricia Dickerson of Lake Charles and Brenda O’Quain of Sulphur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Joseph Myers and Frankie Myers Jenkins; one brother, Ronald Myers; two sisters, Mona Green and Vickie Myers and an infant daughter.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the American Legion Hall Post #370 on Miller Avenue in Westlake. Military honors will follow.
