Donald Terry Salyards

Donald Terry “Don” Salyards, 64, of Gillis, LA passed away at 11:00 PM on Monday, May 14, 2018 in a local hospital.

Mr. Salyards was born on September 15, 1953 in Altoona, PA where he was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the US Army for 5 years, earning the rank of Master Sergeant in the artillery corp. He lived in several cities throughout the country until settling in Gillis in 2004. Mr. Salyards was a carpenter by trade.

He enjoyed fishing, shrimping, crabbing, and playing poker with his family. Mr. Salyards will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years, Maria Kaufman Salyards of Gillis; five children, Misty Keith of Altoona, PA, Angel Buckman of Gulfport, MS, Christopher Phillips, Jennifer Knighten, and Anna Salyards all of Lubbock, TX; four step children; six brothers, Dwayne, Carl “Butch”, Leon, George, John, and Jeff Salyards; two sisters, Carol Fellabaum and Marcia Salyards; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Carl Salyards and two sisters, Paula Fennesey and Mary Panek.

Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A memorial will be held at a later date.
