Doris Trahan Reed, 93, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 21, 1931, to Odette Newman and Duplance Trahan, Doris lived a life devoted to education, family, and faith.
A proud alumna of McNeese State University, Doris earned her master’s degree in education and began her teaching career in 1963 at Oak Park Elementary, transferring to F. K. White shortly after. There, she taught 5th and 6th grade math and science with passion and excellence. She was especially proud of her work in the gifted program, where her dedication to her students left a lasting impact. After retiring from elementary and middle education, she continued to shape future generations as a professor at McNeese State University, retiring once again after a fulfilling tenure.
Beyond the classroom, Doris found great joy in spending time with her grandkids and great-grandchild, traveling with her beloved husband, and tending to her flowers — often seeing in them the beauty of God’s creation. A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Thomas (Larry); grandchildren, Teri Kennedy (Clay) and Lance Thomas (Drew); great-grandson, Ryan Kennedy; her brother, Charles Trahan; and her cherished friend and caregiver, Rhonda.
Doris is reunited in heaven with her husband of 33 years, Eldee Reed; her parents; and her ten siblings.
