Dorothy "Dot" Huval

March 2, 1931 — December 15, 2017

2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”

Dorothy “Dot” Huval, 86, of Moss Bluff passed away at 4:48 PM on Friday, December 15, 2017 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Huval was born on March 2, 1931 in Lafayette and moved to Lake Charles in 1952 before moving to Moss Bluff in 1980.   In her earlier years prior to marriage, she was a telephone operator in Lafayette. Mrs. Huval was a lady of strong faith and was a devoted member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. She made her Cursillo and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and praying the rosary.

She was a lady of many wonderful characteristics and was a one of a kind. Mrs. Huval was the best example of how a wife, mother, and grandmother should be. She was known for her sewing abilities and crocheting. When her children were younger, she sewed all of their clothing and later sewed each of her daughter’s wedding dresses. She also crocheted baby blankets for every new baby born into the family. Mrs. Huval was known for her Cajun cooking skills.

Mrs. Huval will be remembered for her sense of humor and her ease of making people laugh, her good will spirit, and her smile she wore until the very end. Her life was full of love, laughter and joy with her family and husband with whom she traveled the world. They were members of the Cruisin Cajuns and also enjoyed traveling in their motor home. Together they belonged to the Krewe du Grande Bois and were active members of the Civic Club in Moss Bluff.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 68 years, Harold Huval of Moss Bluff; six children, Christine Collins (Terry) of Lake Charles, Charlotte Baudoin (Steve) of Lake Charles; David Huval (Greta) of Moss Bluff, Kathy Harrell (Jeff) of Kinder, Huey Huval (Denise) of Kennesaw, GA, and Claudia Dugas (Derrick) of Moss Bluff; twenty six grandchildren, Alicia Collins Stanley (Chad), Terrell Collins (Michelle), Alexandra Collins Johnson (Nick), Christian Collins, Jared Baudoin (Sabrina), Danny Baudoin (Lori), John Michael Baudoin, Alisha Baudoin, Kolbe Baudoin, Jason Huval (Holly), Esther Huval Guynes (James), Adam Huval (Sarah), Stewart Harrell (Bethany), Thomas Harrell (Kacey), Danielle Harrell Newlin (Albert), Matthew Harrell, Jacob Huval (Michelle), Christopher Huval, Corin Huval Bryan (Cameron), Audrey Huval Weisert (Jeremy), Samara Dugas Rigmaiden (Thomas), Shaina Dugas Champagne (Matt), Sylvia Dugas, Serianna Dugas Guthrie (Kyle), Derrick Dugas, II, and Dominic Dugas; and thirty four great grandchildren along with four on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claudia and Telesmar Latiolais and a sister, Mildred Boustany and husband, Joe.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, December 18, 2017, Mr. and Mrs. Huval’s 68th wedding anniversary, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being led by her granddaughters at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue in the church on Monday from 12:00 noon until the start of the service. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
