Dorothy Eleanor Halley, born Hoffpauir, known to her family and friends as “Dot,” was born in Ebenezer, La. on December 6, 1932, to Adam Watts Hoffpauir and Bertie Lucille Faulk Hoffpauir. She was the youngest of three children. Dot graduated as Valedictorian from Westlake High School in 1951. She entered into her eternal rest on March 14, 2026, surrounded by her family.
On August 13, 1955, Dot married Mesonie T. “Buck” Halley in Sulphur, La. and celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to his death in October of 2025.
Dot had a long career in bookkeeping and finance. She was the sole supporter of the family while Buck attended dental school and worked throughout their marriage, managing the front desk and finances of his dental practice. At times, she also worked as his chair-side assistant.
Dot was the Assistant in “All Things Buck”. When he had a building project, she was handing him the nails and holding the hammer. Buck didn’t get in the truck that Dot wasn’t right beside her. Her most important job however was a prayer warrior for her family, church and friends.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Leotta Russell, and her brother, Edward Hoffpauir, and her sisters-in-law, Janis Mann and Rosemary Whitmire; brothers-in-law, Merle Mann and James Whitmire; and her great-grandson, Isaac Harwell.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Halley Hoffpauir and husband, Bobby, of Beaumont, TX; and her son, Mesonie Terrence Halley, Jr., and wife, Jan, of Lake Charles. Dot also leaves behind her grandchildren: Brianne Dean and husband, Nathan; Zane Hoffpauir; Kendra Harwell and husband, Greg; Chris O’Quinn; Ben O’Quinn and wife, Beth; Jennifer O’Quinn; Jordan Halley and wife, Kelli; Victoria Halley; and Kaden Mott; along with 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Dot’s life was devoted to God, to her husband Buck, and to her family. She left a lasting legacy of quiet strength and patience.
She will be deeply missed, but the imprint of her life remains on all that knew and loved her.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
A memorial service will take place Wednesday March 18, 2026 at 1:30pm. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 11:00am till time of service.
