Dorothy Nell Roper, 84, passed away on July 30, 2025, surrounded by her family. Nell first and foremost loved Jesus and her family. Her favorite pastime was talking and visiting. She enjoyed going to church, bible studies and picking up sticks in her yard. Nell’s hobbies consisted of collecting things, antiques, old coins and dolls. She loved working mind game puzzles and had stacks of puzzle books that she worked on daily. When she was around other people, she loved reminiscing about her childhood and telling and retelling her favorite memories.
Nell is survived by her only son, Robert Roper, Jr. and his wife, Pamela; five grandsons, Johnny Roper and wife, Tracey, Justin Roper and wife, Meghann, Joel Roper and wife, Leslie, Jeremy White and wife, Sarah and Stephen White and significant other, Ryan Cormier; 13 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; one brother, Chester Spicer and wife, Kay; one sister, Debbie Spicer Kittner and husband, Rodney; two sisters in law, Pat Spicer and Dee Spicer; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and two dogs whom she loved, Cub and Spot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Roper, Sr.; her mother, Dorothy Degeer Hession; her father, Franklin Wyley Spicer; her big brother, Marshall Spicer; her brother, Frankie Spicer; her sister, Karen Spicer Fodrie; and her grandson, Joseph Wayne Roper.
Services for Nell will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10 AM at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur from 5-8 PM and will resume on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow services at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, LA.
