Dorothy Jean Waller

June 25, 1961 — April 9, 2026

Lake Charles

Dorothy Jean Waller, 64, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026 in the comfort of her home.

The daughter of a career Military man, Dorothy was born in Germany, raised in Illinois, Lake Charles and Oklahoma and in 1974 her father made Lake Charles their home ever after. She was a graduate of Barbe High School and Demons Beauty School where she attained her License in Cosmetology. She worked seven years as a Cosmetologist then went on to work in construction insulation. Shortly thereafter, she began her career with Westlake Polymers as an entry level operator and worked her way to Shift Supervisor, her current position with thirty-nine years with company.

During her younger years Dorothy enjoyed playing softball and was an avid supporter of the Barbe High School Softball team. She also enjoyed cheering on the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. She loved to travel with friends and family: annual snow ski trips, countless cruises and revisiting her home in Germany with her mother. She was a social butterfly, always a friend, never met a stranger, never had anyone say anything bad about her and had a great circle of friends. Her soft spot was her fur babies. She was given her first Yorkie puppy in 1972 and has been a “dog mom” with many Yorkies through the years. She also came to love Schnauzers, when welcoming her mother and her fur babies into her home.  Amongst her greatest times were those times she spent with her family, cooking, preparing for holiday gatherings and most importantly, spoiling her only niece.

She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, beautiful smile and her generous desire to help when needed or not. She was always there. Dorothy will be most remembered for her exemplary love and devotion through the years of caring for her mother.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four brothers, James Edward Waller of Westlake, Jessie Lee Waller (Dena) of Lake Charles, Ray Norman Waller of DeQuincy and Phillip Shell (Katie) of Salt Lake City, UT; one niece, Sara Nicole Waller of DeQuincy; three nephews, Thomas Waller of Lake Charles, Corey Blair Duplechin (Candace) of Moss Bluff and Justin Blake Duplechin (Jackie) of Pearland, TX; many dear friends and her five fur babies, Heidi, Marley, Joey, Peppy and Darby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward Waller and Frieda Lieselotte Hempel Waller and two sisters-in-law, Christine Bumpus Waller and Ronda Rae Thompson Waller.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Pastor Charles Miller will officiate. Interment services will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Monday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
