Douglas David Fontenot

Douglas David “Doug” Fontenot, 66, of Carlyss passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025 in a local hospital.

Mr. Fontenot was born November 4, 1959 to Pierre and Thelma Fontenot in Sulphur, LA and lived most of his life in Carlyss. He was a graduate of Sulphur High School and Sowela Technical Community College where he attained an Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Mechanics for Millwrights and Machinists. He worked twenty-one years for Olin Chemical and twenty years for Rain CII from which he retired. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Fontenot enjoyed younger years of duck hunting with his father. He also enjoyed many years of fishing, running crab pots and spending time at his “Happy Place”, his camp in Toledo Bend where he found tranquility in sitting at the end of his deck. As a son of a former recruiter for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was a huge fan. His favorite team was whichever Little League team his nephews were playing for. He looked forward to the Little League World Series every year. His soft spot was for animals and at one point had somewhat of farm of pets at his home. He served many years on the Board of Directors for the Olin/Access of Louisiana Credit Union, was member of the Masonic Lodge #424 and St. Theresa Catholic Church.

Mr. Fontenot, affectionately known as “D.D.”, was an admirable man of faith and family, real and true to what you saw is who he was. He had a kind, caring heart while being strong with hugs that always made his family feel safe. His greatest times were spent visiting with friends and amongst the surroundings of family.

His family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jospeh Gregory Lugo and the nurses and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital 3rd floor ICU for their excellence in care and compassion.

He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of forty-five years, Stephenie Pearson Fontenot of Sulphur; one daughter, Heidi Renee Fontenot Newton (Devin) of Denham Springs; grand fur baby, Ares; two sisters, Mary Catherine Hughes (Frank) of Hackberry and Norma Louise Breaux of Scott; mother-in-law, Sissie Swire of Carlyss; one brother-in-law, Richard Pearson (Susan) of Carlyss; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Wolfe of Pea Ridge, AR and Cynthia Scheufens (Greg) of Carlyss; sons of heart, Clint Puskar, Logan Pearson and Slade Pearson; many cousins that were truly his friend and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Fontenot (Patricia), sister, Nancy Spell (Huey); father-in-law, Levi Pearson and three brothers-in-law, Harold Breaux, Stuart Pearson, II and Tom Wolfe.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Father Sibi Kunninu will officiate. Interment services will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary service beginning at 6:00 PM.
