Dr. Larry R. Vinson was called by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 16, 2015. Born in St. Petersburg, Florida to Roy Lucious and Mary Agnes Cole Vinson, Dr. Vinson was raised in Orlando, Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication in 1986 at Florida State University. He moved to Lake Charles and began his career at McNeese State University in 1988, where he worked as Associate Professor of Communication. He loved playing tennis and enjoyed coaching soccer for fourteen years as his son was growing up. Dr. Vinson was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. His membership in ACTS and his relationship with his ACTS brothers was most important to him, for it was through an ACTS retreat in 2012 that he met Christ face to face and when his life took on new meaning. Dr. Vinson is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Angela McCall of Moss Bluff; two sons, Jacob Austin Vinson of Baton Rouge and Zachary McCall, of Lake Charles; one daughter, Gambrielle McCall Brown and husband Rex Brown of Eunice; two grandchildren, Ella Grace Brown and Baylor McCall Brown; and two sisters, Barbara Sexton of Colorado and Alice Vinson of Indianapolis, Indiana. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 20, 2015 at St. Theodore Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a scripture service being held at 6:00 PM, and will resume on Monday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service. The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved husband and father to the staff of Southern Hospice and also to the staff of Harbor Hospice House.
