E.D. Perry Jr., 98, of Moss Bluff, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025. Born on February 10, 1927, to Robert Ed Perry and Charity "Annie" Edwards Perry, E.D. lived a long, full life defined by hard work, and a deep connection to the outdoors.
E.D. was the epitome of an outdoorsman. He found his greatest joy in hunting, fishing, and shrimping, and he turned that passion into a lifelong career as a self-employed commercial fisherman. His love for the land and water earned him the respect of many in the Moss Bluff community, where he was known as a strong, serious man with much strength.
As a young man, E.D. met Lucille Laughlin one evening while playing dominos. The story has it, he took her outside and kissed her. E.D. and Lucille married on October 5, 1946, and spent the next 67 years together until her passing in 2014.
Though known for his serious nature, E.D. was also a gifted storyteller, always ready with a memory from the water or woods. His son-in-laws could often bring out his rare but treasured laugh.
E.D. is survived by his seven loving children: Carolyn Cruze and husband Donnie, Sandra Dowden and husband Tommy, Melanie Perry, Evia Perry Hodge, Edna Little, Ed Perry and wife Cathy, and Robert Perry and wife Lori. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will carry his legacy forward. He is further survived by his sisters, Bobbie Stead and Marilyn Gay.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille Laughlin Perry; his parents; brothers Jack Raymond Perry and Clarence Perry; and sisters Eloise Perry Hunter, Myrtle Perry Curry, Clara Perry Fruge, and Johnnie Perry Grove; and one grandson David Craig Hodge.
A funeral service honoring E.D.'s life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Moss Bluff. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until the start of the service. A graveside service will follow at Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Chris Cruze, Donald Hodge, Cody Perry, Christian Perry, Andrew Oliver, and Tom Dowden Jr.
