Earl Joseph "Joey" Spears Jr.

Earl Joseph “Joey” Spears, Jr., beloved father of Jolie Fleur Spears and son of Joycelyn Marie LaFleur Spears, passed away September 17, 2022, at age 51.

Joey attended the University of Houston, worked as a printer in a local business, and was a member of St. John Vianney. He was always gentle, easy-going, and generous. Joey was incredibly smart, even as a child. He enjoyed watching game shows and, especially, competing with Jeopardy contestants. He loved a good conspiracy theory, listening to podcasts, and figuring stuff out. He loved the stars and moon and always knew when a meteor shower or eclipse was due. His enthusiastic, and sometimes irreverent, sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joey is preceded in death by his first wife, Stephanie Spears. He is survived by his daughter, Jolie Fleur Spears; mother, Joycelyn Spears; siblings, Deborah “Day” Spears Hull (Jeffery), Judy Elizabeth Spears, Charles Daniel Spears (Blair), and Timothy Lawrence Spears (Ashley); nieces and nephews, Emily Grace Justile Hull, Isaac Allan Hull, Hayden Joseph Spears, Jayce William Spears, and Aubrey Elizabeth Spears; godmother, Marian Lopez (Paul); aunt, Mary Lou Leger (Jimmy); uncle, John Louis LaFleur (Linda); numerous cousins, mother of his daughter, Rosann Spears; and longtime friends, John and Carla Hassler.

His cremation has been entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. John Vianney of Bell City on December 10, 2022, with Rev. John Payne, Celebrant. Burial of his cremains will be in Broussard Cemetery.
