Edda Hoffpauir

Edda Wead Hoffpauir passed away peacefully on August 4th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and unwavering love for her family.

Born in Leesville, Louisiana, Edda was a proud graduate of Evans High School and went on to earn her bachelor's and master's degree in English and History from McNeese State University. She possessed a deep love for learning, reading, and the written Word, gifts she carried throughout her life.

Edda devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family as a loving homemaker. She raised five impressive sons with strength, grace, and unwavering dedication, instilling in them strong values of faith, integrity, and perseverance. She took great pride not only in her sons, but also in the beautiful wonderful women they married.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Louis “L. A." Hoffpauir; her granddaughter, Adeline Hoffpauir; and her brothers, Raymond Wead and Ralph Wead.

Edda is survived by her sons, Russell and wife Leah of Cullman, Alabama, Robert and wife Angie of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Brent and wife Joan of Hobe Sound, Florida, Bart and wife Michelle of Sulphur, Louisiana, and Greg and wife Jamie of Viola, Illinois.

Edda was a proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren include, Caty Hoffpauir. Isaac and Nikki Hoffpauir, Emma and Jacob Osgood, Elliot and Bailey Hoffpauir, Audrey and Landon Mershimer, Louis and Kalysa Hoffpauir, Edward and Hannah Hoffpauir, Andrew, Abigail, Alivia, and Ava Hoffpauir, Garrett and Keaira Hoffpauir, Grace and Alex Erickson, and Gavin Hoffpauir; along with six cherished great-grandchildren. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as "Oma," a name that reflected the warmth, wisdom, and joy she brought into their lives.

She is also survived by her sisters, Evelyn Herrington and Merrilyn Goodlow, along with many nieces and nephews.

A woman of strong and abiding faith, Edda was a devoted member of Lakepointe Church in Lake Charles. She found great joy in reading her Bible, carefully underlining passages and recording thoughtful notes. Her faith was the foundation of her life and the guiding force behind her love for others.

Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the sweet aroma of her famous "disappearing" chocolate chip cookies, baked by the dozens to keep up with five growing boys. These simple acts of care created lasting memories that her family will treasure forever. Edda will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Her life stands as a testament to faith, family, and a life beautifuly lived. Notable verses include; Psalm 94:22, Proverbs 3:5-6, 2 Timothy 2:15.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Her funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2026 in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, August 6 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and will resume on Friday at 9:00 AM, continuing until the start of the service.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to her caregivers, Val Danelle, Bernadette Duplechain, and Vivian LaSalle. They provided excellent care, and became an extended part of the family.
