Edgar Blaine Rains, Sr., 81, of Lake Charles died at 3:45 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2016 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Rains was born on August 20, 1934 in Williamsburg, KY and lived in Lake Charles since 1972. After 20 years, he retired from the Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Rains also retired from the US Post Office after 22 ½ years of service as a mail carrier. He was a former member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Sulphur where he sang in the choir.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 17 years, Bertha Manuel Rains of Lake Charles; two sons, Glenn Allen Rains (Cyndi) of Fort Pierce, FL and Dennis Alexander Rains (Sheri) of Lake Charles; a daughter, Suzzette Marie Hargis (Mike) of New Jersey; a brother, Donnie Ray Rains (Brenda) of Williamsburg, KY; three sisters, Dorothy Jean Leach of Ohio, Bonnie Griffith (Jim) of Stewart, FL, and Carrie Blevins (Ray) of Lake Charles; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Cecil Rains; his first wife and mother of his children, Helen Vivian “Pookie” Rains; a son, Edgar Blaine Rains, Jr.; and a grandson, Benjamin Patrick Rains.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 12:00 noon until the start of the services. An inurnment will be held privately in Sallier Cemetery.
