Iowa – Edward Paul “Eddie” Hargrave, Sr., 68, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 in his residence after a lengthy illness.
Ed was born in Kaplan to the late Ewell and Cloma (LeBouef) Hargrave on June 13, 1949. Ed was a graduate of Lacassine High School and was a retired deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. He proudly served in the U. S. Marines from 1969 thru 1972, with a tour in Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion. In his spare time, Ed was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors are his wife of 37 years, Lillian Richard Hargrave; sons, Edward Paul Hargrave, Jr. (Jaime) of Lexington, NC, Kenny Mercer (Robin) of Moss Bluff; daughter, Nikki Cavenah (Scott) of Reeves; grandchildren, Devan & Kaylin Hargrave, Aubrey, Gabriel & Noah Mercer, Finnley & Amelie Cavenah, Casey (Angel) & Kyle Mercer; great-grandchildren, Paige, Sienna, James & Avery; siblings, Tangie LaFleur & Nelson Hargrave.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Brad Mercer and great-granddaughter, Alexis Mercer.
A Mass of Christian burial is Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church ~ Lacassine. Father Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is Tuesday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., with a Cursillo rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. and will resume Wednesday in the funeral home from 8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers assisting in his service are Casey & Kyle Mercer, Devan Hargrave, Rodney Richard, Bob Dalrymple & John Brashear.
