A faithful servant and devoted father, Freddie was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Freddie was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and proudly played on the 1958 Lake Charles High School State Championship Football Team. His passion and talent for the game continued into his collegiate years, earning him All-American honors and induction into the Pearl River Football Hall of Fame. He honorably served his country as a combat medic and was a veteran of the Louisiana National Guard. After many years of dedicated service, he retired as a Federal Inspector with the United States Department of the Interior.
Freddie enjoyed golfing and carpentry and had a lifelong fascination with all things weather-related. He will be remembered for his unwavering Catholic faith, deep love for his family, and appreciation for life.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Runte of Friendswood, Texas; his son, Kyle Runte of Round Rock, Texas; and Sheryl, a long-time special friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Evora Runte. He also leaves behind his cherished furry grandbabies: Whiskers, Mittens, Bubbie, and Lou Lou.
According to Freddie’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Orange Grove Cemetery on Broad Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brighten Bridge Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
