Edwena Marie Manuel Ash, 69, of Ragley, LA passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Ash was a native of Eunice and lived most of her life in the Lake Charles area. She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy and McNeese State University where she obtained a Bachelor degree in Education. She worked as a substitute teacher at South Beauregard Elementary and Moss Bluff Middle School. She was a self taught, very talented artist and enjoyed painting. Mrs. Ash loved the outdoors, raising horses and cows, gardening, and pampering her rose bushes. Devoted to her faith, she was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church where taught CCD and led the rosary at 4:30 Mass every Saturday. She also taught CCD at St. Pius Catholic Church. Mrs. Ash will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of forty seven years, Gary Layne Ash of Ragley; daughter, Rebecca Cart and husband Greg of Lake Charles; son, Matthew Ash and wife Aimee of Sulphur; granddaughter, Alexandra Ash of Baton Rouge; sister, Sandra McGrath and husband Kurtis of Lake Charles; nephew, Adam McGrath and wife Erika of Lake Charles and sister-in-law, Judith Romero of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Geraldine Manuel and nephew, John McGrath.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 17, 2017 at St. Theodore Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father John Huckaby will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM in the funeral home. Visitation Monday will be from 9:00 AM until the start of services in the church.
