It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Effery Thibodeaux, Jr., who entered eternal peace on October 10, 2026, at the age of 78. Born and raised in Eunice, Louisiana, "Junior", as he was fondly known, married and made Holmwood, Louisiana his lifelong home.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Scott Thibodeaux (Kristi,) Cody Thibodeaux (Chantel), Daphne Landry (Steven), Crystal Miller (Jason); ten grandchildren, Connor, Adrienne, Colton, Callie, Shelby, Dustin, Dawson, Brooke, Tiffany, Jaci; stepchildren, Lee Gaspard (Candy), Monica Moore (Channing), Sammy Price (Kenneth); step-grandchildren, Katelyn, Santana, Colton, Judah, Alex, Ryan; generations of great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy Thibodeaux (Elaine); one sister, JoAnn T. Young (James), one sister-in-law, Gail Thibodeaux; and many loving nieces, nephews, and family friends.
All who knew and loved Effery are welcomed to celebrate his life and honor his memory. A visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 in the funeral home at 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Effery will be laid to rest in Lacassine Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Connor Thibodeaux, Dustin Landry, Dawson Landry, Colton Saltzman, Chris Thibodeaux, and Patrick Murphy. Honorary Pallbearer will be John Martin.
Effery was preceded in death by his first wife, the mother of his children, Jacqueline "Jackie" Leger Thibodeaux; his second wife, Margaret Gaspard Thibodeaux; his parents, Effery Thibodeaux, Sr. and Octavia T. Thibodeaux; and his two brothers, Gerald Thibodeaux and Percy Thibodeaux.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Bridgette Edward who cared for Effery with much compassion and love during his final months.
Effery was silent, strong, reserved, patient, devoted, and loving. He lived by his faith and treasured family time watching his grandchildren grow and thrive. He was an avid sugarcane farmer and enjoyed raising and working cattle and attending family reunions. During his last days at home, he was the "watcher" of cows soon to calf and enjoyed tending to his chickens. These treasured memories of Effery - affectionately known as "Daddy," "Paw Paw," and "Pop" - will never fade from our hearts. May he rest in peace.
