Effie Fontenot

Effie Marie Barbee Fontenot, 89, of Denham Springs, LA, died on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in a care facility.

Mrs. Fontenot was born March 15, 1929 in Johnson Bayou, LA, raised in Lake Arthur, LA, where she graduated from high school in 1946.  She lived in Lake Charles for a number of years and in 1966 moved to Baton Rouge.  She moved back to Lake Charles in 1976 when she married Andy Fontenot, where she remained until the age of 84, when she moved to Denham Springs to be closer to family.  She was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she would count the money and was a member of the Altar Society.  Mrs. Fontenot loved to crochet and spend time with her family and will be remembered for the wonderful meals she would make.

Mrs. Fontenot is survived by her daughter, Jackie Bonano Moran and husband Sam of Zachary, LA; step-sons, Eddie Miller and wife Cindy of New Boston, TX and Gary Fontenot and wife Angie of Lake Charles; step-daughter, Paula Bruce and husband Greg of Lake Charles; brother, Woodrow Barbee and wife Sally of Vinton, LA; sisters, Rose Henderson of Newburg, PA and Georgia Radkey of Jennings, LA; grandchildren, Andrea Miller, Mahala Watson and husband Zach, Lena Miller, Beth Robb and husband Scott, Christopher Bonano and wife Nikki, Tamma Powell and husband Chris, Morgan Fontenot Freeman and husband Irving, and Ian Bruce; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack L. Miller; second husband, Paul “Andy” Fontenot; parents, Adam and Octavia Barbee; sisters, Laura LaBauve and Rena Stancel; and brother, Lloyd Barbee.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service with a rosary being held at 10:40 AM.
