Ella Mae Brown

Ella Mae Sarver Brown, 90, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 7:40 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 in a local care facility.

 

Mrs. Brown was born June 14, 1925 in Gueydan, LA to J.C. Sarver, Sr. and Willie Baker Sarver and has lived in Lake Charles since 1942. She was a graduate of Gueydan High School and married John F. Brown on February 27, 1953. She worked for Lake Charles Grain and Grocery, Kelly Weber, and Calcasieu Mercantile Wholesale Grocery as an invoice clerk for eight years, St. Patrick Hospital as a secretary in the dialysis unit for seven years and as a secretary at Kaufman Elementary School for two years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles since 1953, where she sang in the choir and was director of 2nd grade Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed working in her yard and loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was a selfless woman who will be missed dearly.

 

Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, John C. Brown of Wimberley, TX; daughter, Judy Cormier and husband Danny of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Brian Cormier (Jessica), Jacob Cormier (Tiffany), Aimee Duhon (Robert), Cadence Brown, and Alanna Brown; five great grandchildren and one on-the-way; and two special foster great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Brown; parents; sisters, Edith Ramby, Jessie Young, Elaine Boswell, and Louise Powell; and brother, J.C. Sarver, Jr.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Gary Evers will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.

 

The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Dr. Michael Turner, Anna Landry, and the nursing staff of Christus St. Patrick Hospital and the staff of Harbor Hospice for the love and support they have given.
