Ella Marie DeRouen, 90, of Lake Charles, LA entered into God's heavenly presence Wednesday, March 11, 2015 concluding a long and wonderful life. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and supporters carried her throughout her recent and courageous struggle. Marie was born May 11, 1924 in Lake Charles, LA to Albert Goos Funk, Sr. and Mary Ella Bonsall Funk, the youngest of eight children. She was also a lifelong member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. She was the great granddaughter of Lake Charles pioneer Captain Daniel J. Goos Sr.. After graduating from Lake Charles High School, she married Lucius "Lou" DeRouen on December 27, 1941 in Sulphur, LA. Lou and Marie raised their two daughters Janice and Becky, in Lake Charles, LA. Residing in Lake Charles most of her life, Marie loved her time with her sisters in the family flower business, Funks Florist on Helen Street for 55 years. She always knew what was going on in town, either good or bad, by the flowers being bought and the reason for them being given. She cherished the deep friendships she made in her town along with the relationships she maintained with her large extended family. Extremely generous, she loved Christmas and Easter most of all. It was a wonderful time for all her family to come together at her home. A beloved sister, mother, and "Mi Mi", she will be missed for her wry humor and altruistic spirit. Marie was survived by her sister, Della Funk Vick; one daughter, Becky DeRouen; son in law, Charles Chassay; grandchildren, Dr. Mark Chassay and wife Kimberly, Trent Chassay and wife Catherine, Brandy Calloura and husband Todd, Lindsey Benglis (Ivey), Garett Benglis, and Brennan Benglis; fourteen great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hollingsworth Hooper and husband Ryan, Matthew Hollingsworth, Andrew Hollingsworth, Christopher Calloura, Michael Calloura, Layla Bella Ivey, Leah Hicken, Alex Hicken, Skyler Benglis, Jayden Broussard, Huston Chassay, Katie Bear; and great-great grandchildren, Alton Bear, Arthur Bear, Peyton and Harlee Hooper; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Lou DeRouen who was a WWII veteran; and one daughter, Janice Chassay; and her parents. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a 6:00 PM rosary Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM until funeral services at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Goos Cemetery. Father Sedita will officiate services. The family would like to thank all of the Doctors and Nurses that aided in her care of the past months. The family would especially like to thank Harbor Hospice and Southern Home Health.
