Ellis Mitchell George, 94, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away September 4, 2024. Born on April 12, 1930, Ellis was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, where he spent over 45 years as a dedicated butcher in the grocery industry. His career began at Jake's on Ryan Street, and he later became an integral staff member at Abe's Grocery, where he worked for 35 years.
Ellis was known not only for his work but also for his generous spirit and dedication to his community. He was a devoted member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, who served every Thursday folding Sunday programs.
He is survived by his nieces, Erin Jan George Kitts and Faylyn George Wiley, both of Lake Charles; his sister-in-law, Fay Elizabeth George; and his extended family from the Charlie and Jamille George family.
Funeral Services will be at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Tuesday, September 10 at 1:00pm. The officiant of services is Rev. Mother Mitzi George. Visitation will be open to the public at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Brighton Bridge Hospice, P.O. Box 279, Oberlin, LA 70655, in Ellis' memory.
