Eloise Lutz Mcbride

October 26, 1922 — March 25, 2017

Eloise Lutz McBride, age 94, passed from this life on Saturday, March 25, 2017. She departed peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family.

Eloise was born in 1922 in Orange, TX and lived most of her life in Westlake, LA. She was a member of the Westlake High School Class of 1939 (the “Ram statue” class), and attended the inaugural session of Lake Charles Junior College (which soon became McNeese).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. McBride; her parents, Edna Belle and Charles A. Lutz; her sister, Bonnie J. Faul; and her brother, Charles A. Lutz, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Cecil C. McBride (Sheila) of Ruston, Robin McBride of Lake Charles, Avis Lewis (Bud) of Tomball, TX, Brian McBride (Linda) of Westlake; grandchildren, Wendy Moses (Kendall), Andrew McBride (Ginger), Ginger Guice (Kyle), Melinda Castellon (Paulino), Valerie Shinpaugh (Mark), Nathan Lewis, Sabrina Ewald (Ben), Brian McBride, Jr., Mark McBride, and Daniel McBride; and ten great-grandchildren.

Affectionately known as “Weezie”, she was a member of a long-time Westlake family. Weezie was noted for her knowledge of Westlake history, for her curiosity and inquisitiveness, for being an engaging conversationalist, and for her ardent desire to defeat her grandchildren at Scrabble. Weezie was intelligent, spirited, entertaining, and exhibited a very strong life force which will be greatly missed.

Weezie was a lifelong advocate for education and the arts, and very much appreciated the Calcasieu Parish Public Library Program for Homebound Seniors. She also greatly enjoyed Public Broadcasting System, and requested that Louisiana Public Broadcasting be supported in lieu of flowers, 7733 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Jody George, nurse practitioner Ramona Whittington, and the staff of Harbor Hospice for the excellent care provided.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 8, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Willie Bellard and Deacon Louis Horr will officiate. Inurnment will be held in Westlake Memorial Garden Cemetery at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will begin on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
