Emery Joseph Stutes, Sr.

Emery Joseph Stutes, Sr., of Sulphur, LA passed away at a local hospital on Monday, December 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Stutes was born on May 28, 1933 in Crowley, LA to Clarence and Sadie Marie Touchet Stutes.

Emery moved to Lake Charles in 1947 where he attended and graduated from LaGrange High School.  Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force serving in both Korea and Vietnam as a pilot.  He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service.  Emery enjoyed playing golf and flying.

Emery is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 50 years and mother of his children, Eleanor Britt Stutes.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of eight years, Kathy Richard Stutes, his daughter Carla Britt (Neal) Brown of Lake Charles and step-daughter, Wanda (Robert) Sonnier of Westlake.  He also leaves his four sons, Danny (Elba) Stutes of Portland, ME, Emery J. “Butch” (Kay) Stutes, Jr of Bentonville, AR, Patrick Roland (Christina) Stutes of Tallahasse, FL and Greggory Paul (Carol) Stutes of Winston-Salem, NC.  He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  He will also be missed by his two pets, Major and Mable.

The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 5-8PM with a Rosary being recited at 6PM.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 11AM-2PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 2PM, officiated by Father Aubrey Guilbeau.  Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
