Emily Christ

Emily Christ, 92, of Lake Charles, LA. passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Mrs. Christ was born on July 15, 1924, to Avie and Delia Courville in Basile, LA.

Emily graduated from Basile High School in 1941 and then attended Chenier Business College of Beaumont.

Emily was a member of the Court of Catholic Daughters for 46 years. As an active member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, she taught CCD and was a Eucharistic Minister for over 35 years.  Emily particularly enjoyed going to Memorial Hospital on Wednesdays to serve communion and also loved visiting with the shut-ins.  In addition to being a member of the Altar Society, Emily taught catechism to first graders for over 50 years.  Emily will be remembered for her servant’s heart and her love for her family, other people and her church.

Mrs. Christ is survived by her daughter, Barbara Nelson of Carylss, LA. and her son David Christ of Lake Charles, LA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Cleve Lawrence Christ. She is also preceded in death by her son, Don Christ; daughter, Beryl Miller; seven brothers; two sisters; and great-grandson, Brett Miller.

The family will receive guests from 4-8PM on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 with a Rosary at 6:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday morning from 9-11:30AM.  Funeral mass will be at St. Margaret Catholic Church at 12:00PM, officiated by Father Marcus Johnson.  Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
