Emma Jean Harper Hobbs, 75, of Lake Charles passed away at 4:18 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in a Metairie hospital.
Mrs. Hobbs was born on August 9, 1950 in El Paso, TX. As the daughter of a military family, she experienced life across the United States and abroad before her family settled in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
A proud 1968 graduate of Lake Charles High School, Mrs. Hobbs went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Home Economics and later a master's degree in School Administration and Supervision from McNeese State University. Her love for education and her students was evident throughout her career, which spanned numerous communities including Oberlin, Lake Charles, Sulphur, Johnson Bayou, Orange, Vidor, and Houston.
Mrs. Hobbs was a member of the Catholic Church. She found joy and fellowship in her involvement with the Red Hat Society and was also an active member of the Republican Women.
Mrs. Hobbs had a special place in her heart for her beloved nieces and their children, whose lives she touched deeply with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Joe Hobbs; sister-in-law, Delores Pyle; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jay Allen Hobbs; parents, Rufus Harper, Sr. and Nita Pecorino Harper; and a brother, Rufus Harper, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. A private burial will be held at Mimosa Pines Cemetery-North. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the start of the service. Dressing in casual attire is encouraged.
