Emma McCall Arceneaux, 86, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 17, 2016.
She was a native of Grand Chenier and graduated from Grand Chenier High School in 1947. She furthered her education at McNeese State University, but finished her home economics degree at Louisiana State University. Afterward, she taught in Cameron Parish schools for seven years. After her marriage to Charles Lawrence Arceneaux, Jr., they settled in Lake Charles to raise their children. The home was always open to countless family and friends for a good, home cooked meal and a place to stay. She mended many garments and crocheted many blankets for loved ones. She stood by and supported her husband through his battle with Parkinson’s; although many more have received her love and care. Emma always found the good in everything, even through the toughest of times. She could always cheer you up with her sass and light-heartedness.
Her favorite pastimes included crabbing, fishing, and swimming along the Mermentau River. She was able to stay in the comfort of her home the last two years with the help of special friends and caregivers, Kendrick (Big Jack) and Moala Jackson.
Emma attended Our Lady Queen of Heaven and Christ the King Catholic Churches. She was also part of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include a daughter, Mona Arceneaux; a son, Robert Arceneaux; two brothers, Norman McCall and wife Joyce and Henry (T-Boy) McCall and wife Faye; grandchildren, Tanya White, Stacy Jefferson, Christina Arceneaux, Donald Charles “D.C” Arceneaux, Angela Seay, and Timmy Seay; and great grandchildren, Lance LaBove, Xander Finch, Cole White, and Emma White.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gladys McCall; her husband, Charles L. Arceneaux; a daughter, Phyllis Ann Arceneaux; a son, Patrick Ross Arceneaux; a brother, Pete McCall; and a sister, Oma (Blue-eyes) McCall Miller.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church. The Rev. Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Grand Chenier under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 10:30 AM.
