Iowa – Erik E. Millslagle, 49, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 in Lake Charles.
Born in Sacramento, California on April 26, 1968, he was the son of Frank and Joan Millslagle. Erik was a graduate of UC San Diego, San Diego State University, Western Nevada Community College and received his Master’s Degree from McNeese State University. He was a biochemist, nurse and a former teacher with the Calcasieu Parish School Board, having taught at J. I. Watson in Iowa.
He regularly attended First United Methodist Church in Iowa with his wife and children. He was active with Cub Scouts of America, Pack 25. He loved camping and building Pinewood derby cars with his son, Luke and playing Minecraft with his son, Jack. He was a member of Krewe du Sauvage of Lake Charles. In his spare time, Erik was an avid reader. He followed professional hockey and he loved the Los Angeles Kings.
Erik is survived by his wife of 11 years, Gena Richard Millslagle; parents, Frank & Joan Millslagle of Carson City, NV; sons, Luke Patrick and Jack Henry Millslagle; siblings, Leanna Millslagle of Gardenville, NV and Patrick Millslagle (Bea) and their children, Coryn and Lauren, of Pleasanton, CA; father and mother-in-law, Ivan & Linda Richard. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Faye & Dick Pundt and Henry & Bertha Tonn.
Visitation will begin Friday, May 12, 2017 in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., with a cursillo rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. in First United Methodist Church of Iowa. Funeral services are Saturday at 10 a.m. in First United Methodist Church of Iowa with Dr. David DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.
