Ernest Benglis

Ernest George Benglis, 87, of Sulphur passed away at 2:53 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 in his residence.

Born on August 25, 1939, in Sulphur, Louisiana, he was a lifelong resident of the community he loved and called home. He spent his entire working life as a pipefitter and plumber, taking pride in his work and in being someone others could depend on.

A true jack of all trades, he could fix, build, tinker, and figure out just about anything. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and if someone needed something, he was there.

In his younger years, he had the opportunity to travel internationally with his grandmother, creating memories and experiences that stayed with him throughout his life.

He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found joy in fishing, camping, gardening, and simply being outside. He was also a devoted animal lover and had a special tenderness for all creatures.

Above all, family was the most important part of his life. He was a loving and hardworking provider who always made sure his family was cared for. He especially cherished his grandchildren and treasured every moment he shared with them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Linda O’Quinn Benglis; children, Mary Johnson, Donna Benglis, Sheila Roach, and George Benglis (Paula); brother, Lemuel Benglis; grandchildren; Lorie Beeler (Donald), Daniel Raoch (Lindsey), Christopher Francois (Payge), Hunter Benglis, and Karlee Davis (Tristan); nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Benglis and siblings, Steve and Louis Benglis.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 14, 2026 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel in Sulphur. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until the start of the service.
