Ertist “Slim” Hardy Doty passed away at a local hospital on February 1, 2017.
After Mr. Doty’s four years in the United States Air Force he worked his whole life as a diesel mechanic and then retired after twenty eight years at Martin GMC. While at Martin GMC he became Mark Chestnut’s bus mechanic and did road service work for Texaco’s fleet of trucks. Slim, as he was known, loved kids and animals. He especially loved his beagles and horses.
He leaves behind his son, Albert Doty (Charlotte); two daughters, Melanie Kershaw-Gournay (Paula), and Cathy Kelley (Earl); four grandchildren, Christopher Troy Kershaw, Kelly Dyan Pettifield (Marcus), Troy James Miller, and Diana Gail Heer (Travis); four step grandchildren, Craig Pauley (Zoey), Garrett Kelley (Kristin), Jessica Guillory (Brad), and Joshua Kelley (Ashley); great-grandson, Conner Thomas Heer, step great-grandson, Ethan Lantier, and another great-grandchild on the way.
Mr. Doty is preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Melvina Doty; wife, Barbara Lucille Baumgarten, and great-grandchild, Delilah Gail Pettifield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 2PM on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Park. The Very Reverend Anthony Fontenot will officiate. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral home on Saturday, February 4th from 10AM until 1:30PM.
