Essie Mae Derouen 71, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018 at Golden Age Retirement Home in Welsh surrounded by her loving family. Born February 19, 1947 in Hayes, the daughter of the late Ivy Schexnider and Bessie Fontenot.
She was a lifelong resident of Hayes and was a Proverbs 31 woman who devoted her life to the Lord and her family. She will be remembered for her love and affection for her children and grandchildren. Essie loved crafting, making cakes and most of all she loved singing and worshiping God.
Survivors are her sons, Bryan Derouen and wife Cheri, Nicholas Derouen and wife Melissa; daughter Denise Derouen Daigle and husband James (JJ), Jr.; brothers, Kenneth Derouen and wife Tammy, Keith Derouen and wife Pam, Ray Schexnider; sisters, Rosie and Darlene Schexnider; brother in law, Curtis Deshotel, Sr.; grandchildren, Jayce Derouen and wife Stephanie, Jessa Lavergne and husband Trey, Gabrielle and Katelyn Derouen; grand-dog, Roux; great-grandson, Trace Derouen; great granddaughter on the way, Stevie Bea Lavergne.
She is preceded in death by the father of her children, Wilbert James Derouen; brothers, Sonny, Jr., and Jimmy Schexnider; sister, Cary Deshotel
Funeral services will be Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa, with Cheri Derouen officiating. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery. Visitation begins Thursday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and resumes Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
