Estelle Wisdom Wheeler

Mrs. Estelle Wisdom Wheeler, 99, of Lake Charles, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 in the comfort of her home.

Estelle Evelyn Doyal was born on October 29, 1926 to Essie and Willie Doyal in Jonesboro, Louisiana. Estelle was a treasured mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was an exceptional seamstress and also enjoyed knitting for family and friends. Her love for gardening and expert knowledge of plants was always evident in her beautifully maintained yard.

She traveled extensively and often shared stories of the memories she made during her travels. She had the opportunity to visit 16 countries around the world – China being her favorite. Estelle was very active in church ministries and often served faithfully behind the scenes. Her strong faith, sweet spirit, and quiet strength were inspirational to everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her first husband - Hamilton Leeman Wisdom; her second husband - Rev. Earl Wheeler; her two sisters - Eulice and Bernice; one granddaughter- LaWanda Estelle Knapp (Misi) and from her extended family, one daughter - Beverly Cook.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses - Linda Stiles and Sherrill, Noni Knapp and Leo, Janie Higginbotham and Toby, Patti Foster and Steve. Along with 9 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great-Great Grandchildren and another little girl who will be arriving in June.

In her extended family, One Son and Daughter-in-Law - Steve Wheeler and Terri; One Daughter and Son-in-Law - Pam Carter and Dave; 7 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Written in her unmistakable script, the following verse was notated in her Bible as being her favorite - “One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple." Psalm 27:4

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Her son-in-law, Rev. Sherrill Stiles will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 16, 2026 at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Sunday will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
