Ethel Marie Moody, 76, of Lake Charles went to be with the Lord at 7:30 AM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Resthaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Moody was born on January 17, 1941 in Mermentau, LA and was raised in Sulphur before moving to Lake Charles. She was a devoted member of Victory Baptist Church where she taught at Victory Baptist Academy. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and was known for her creativity in arts and craft. Mrs. Moody was loved by all and was an inspiring woman to many. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 55 years, Horace Moody of Lake Charles; four daughters, Barbara Courville (Ray) of New Iberia, LA, Mylenda Boudreaux (Dewey) of Lafayette, LA, Penny Vincent (Steve “Pops”) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Joy Liles (David) of Athens, LA; two brothers, Ray Lavergne (Shirley) of Sulphur and Ralay Lavergne (Brenda) of Lake Charles; a sister, Betty Whetnall of Lake Charles; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Daigle; father, Floyd Lavergne; brother, Joe Lavergne; a son, Horace Moody, Jr.; a grandson, Christopher Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Dartez will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
Pallbearers will be: Erik and Kayden Thibodeaux, Mykal and Cory Vincent, Ryan Boudreaux, Steven Dartez, and Chuck Thibodeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ray Courville, Dewey Boudreaux, Steve Vincent, David Liles, and Buddy Thomas.
The family would like to thank the staff of Resthaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their sincere care and compassion given to Mrs. Moody.
