Eula Lejeune, affectionately known as Maw-Maw June, was called to eternal rest on October 26, 2025. In her 99 years she exemplified a deep devotion to her Catholic faith and her family.
Born December 13, 1925 to Miguel and Doris Duhon of Basile, Eula grew up with her seven brothers and sisters working on the farm. She often spoke of the hard work of her father and generosity of her mother, stories of sharing everything from equipment and produce to freshly baked bread and cookies with the neighborhood children. On January 13th 1944 she married Willard Lejeune of Iota. Shortly after their marriage he was deployed to Monterey, California where Eula joined him and earned the nickname "Frenchy" for sharing her Cajun culture through her cooking. Willard and Eula eventually settled in Gillis farming and raising their five children. She passed on many stories and lessons like favorite Cajun French sayings and how to cook the best roast and rice-n-gravy, but most importantly she taught her family to pray without ceasing. Whether it was as small as a spelling test or as big as life-altering discernment, there was no substitute for the power of prayer. She sent prayers daily to her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and fellow parishioners and had a strong devotion to the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
She is survived by her children Ray (Priscilla) Lejeune, Linda (Tony) Sonnier, JoAnn Guillory, Phyllis (Anthony) Lane, and Janet (Don) St.Cyr, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven siblings and their spouses.
