Eva Jane Newell

October 30, 1926 — November 15, 2015

Eva Jane "Janie" Blanchard Newell died November 15, 2015 at the age of 89 at her home in Lake Charles. She was the daughter of the pioneer family of Valsin Hebert-Blanchard of Grand Lake and Euphemie "Phemie" Baccigolopi-Broussard of Creole. She was born in Sweet Lake, LA. Eva Jane was baptized by Monsignor Hubert Crammer at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Church. She attended Grand Lake School and was a member of the first girl's basketball team. She attended Sowela Technical Institute. Her first job was at The Fair department store and later became a government supervisor during WWII. Eva Jane was married to A.F. Sgt. S.P. "Speedy" Newell May 1, 1945 in Ft. Myers, FL by Rev. Myers. She became a member of University United Methodist Church in 1947 and joined the Stone Rollers Sunday School class in 1966. They were a great part of her life. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, President of the Friendship Club for many years, on the Board of Directors for AARP 1900, held various offices in TOPS LA in Lake Charles for 24 years, and part of the volunteer program RSVP of CCOA. Her passions were her family, photographs, writing, and being a military wife for 24 years. Janie was preceded in death by her husband, S.P. "Speedy" Newell, her father Valsin Blanchard, her step-father Daniel LeBouef, mother Euphemia "Phemie" LeBouef, son Paul Wayne Newell, grandson Timothy Daniel Newell, great-great grandson Kaiser Gibson, and sisters Elaine Hebert, Lillie Ellender and Dorothy Thibodeaux, and son-in-law Lee McCall. She is survived by her son Jon Keith Newell and wife Barbara of Lake Charles, and their daughter Dawn and husband Donald Daigle. Son Michael Warren Newell and wife Angela of Moss Bluff, and their sons Michael Warren Newell, Jr. and wife Dawne, Sean Paul Newell and wife Wendee, and Todd Patrick Newell and wife Jessica. Daughter Charlotte Jane Newell Allured and husband Ross of Munising, MI, and their son Colin Lamar Allured and wife Tammy. Daughter Madora Ann Newell Hebert of Sugar Land, TX and her son Austin James Hebert. Son David Blanchard Newell and his partner Darryl Antrobus of Ft Lauderdale, FL and Lake Charles. Grandsons Daniel Joseph Newell, and Dwayne Anthony Newell and wife Megan of Detroit, MI and their mother Carlene Newell. She has 15 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, two extra special nieces, Donelda Gauthreaux her God Child, and JoAnn Strahan, her above and beyond helper in her writing and so many other things. Thank you to Mary Guillory her caregiver. The funeral will be at 10:00am Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Congregational Care Coordinator Marjorie Robinson of University United Methodist Church and grandson Sean Paul Newell, will officiate. Burial will be at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation and celebration of life will be Tuesday, November 17, 4:00-9:00pm and 8:00-10:00am before the service on Wednesday.
