Evie Ruth Manuel

April 10, 1930 — February 1, 2017

Mother went to be with her Lord February 1, 2017.  She was a gentle soul, and a devout Christian that loved her Family and her Assembly of God church.

Ruth was born April 10, 1930 and was raised in Many and Hornbeck, LA with her 11 brothers and sisters.  Her parents were farmers and later owned a general store.   When their house burnt down, mom helped run the boarding house they went to live in.

Ruth came to Lake Charles at 17 years old to look after an older sister who was having her first child.  Mother stayed in Lake Charles, went to work at a diner, and met her future husband Joseph (J.L.) Manuel, who, as the story goes, asked her out several times before she said “yes.”  Through their life together, J.L. was always saying with pride, about his wife Ruth, “She’s Mine” when they were approached by an acquaintance.

Ruth and J.L. married and along with having their 2 girls, Mom received her cosmetology license, >

Mother was such a quiet woman and she loved to bake. Rarely a week went by, when there weren’t wonderful deserts coming from her small kitchen.

Mother leaves to remember her life, her children, Gloria Manuel and Glinda Manuel McGee and her husband Cody; her grandchildren, Mandi McGee Bebee and her husband Brad, Tara McGee Bourgeois and her husband Jason, and Spencer McGee; her great-grandchildren, Alexis Bebee, Kole Bourgeois, Karson Bourgeois and honorary great-granddaughter Kinley Funderburk.

A small graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, February 5 at Pinehill Cemetery in Iowa, LA.  In lieu of flowers, family and friends can make a donation to the American Cancer Society.  The family would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to Resthaven Nursing for the care they gave Mother, and to Memorial Hospital the last week of her life.

Mother, thank you for being our Mom and for sharing your life with us.

The Lord your God in your midst…He will quiet you with His love.  Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
