Freda Bell Schexneider, 87, of Grand Lake passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 in her daughter’s residence.
Born on December 18, 1938, in Winnfield, Louisiana, she lived a life full of creativity, generosity, and joy. She spent her entire life in Lake Charles, where she became a cherished and well-known member of the community.
She was a graduate of LaGrange High School, where she proudly served as Head Majorette. Her love for music and performance carried into adulthood when she founded the Baronettes Marching Squad at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic School. Her faith remained an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
She was widely known for her beautiful stained glass creations, many of which she lovingly gave away or donated to auctions to support others. A giving person by nature, she had a deep love for children and was full of life and talent in all that she did. She especially enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her flowers, and creating a welcoming home filled with warmth.
She loved spending time at the camp in Toledo Bend, a place that brought her peace and happiness. Alongside her husband, she was also known for her dancing skills—the two of them bringing joy wherever they went. Together, they owned and operated LA-TEX Rubber and Specialties.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Chris Schexneider (Rachelle), CynDee Journey (Steve), Angie Sanders (Jonathan Hodges), Freda Dionne Olson (Brian Lebaron), Belinda Schexneider, and Cal Schexneider; her grandchildren, Jill, Cain, Colton, Caden, Charisse, Monique, Demmi Bell, Megan, Shane, Devin, Kortney Bell, Tanner Dionne, Ana Bell, and Clay; great grandchildren, Olivia, William, Meredith, Daegan, Ariana Bell, and Madeline; and great great grandsons, Graham and Gunner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Schexneider; her parents, Angus and Mary Bell; and siblings, Ruth, John, and Mary Lou.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 9, 2026 at St. Martin de Porres. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until leaving for the church at 12:30 PM with a rosary being recited at 11:00 PM.
