Freddie Joe Qualls

August 17, 1945 — October 12, 2025

Freddie "Fred" Joe Qualls, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on October 12, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on August 17, 1945, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Fred dedicated his life to his work as a telecommunications tech in the offshore oil industry. He also Honorably served his Country in the United States Navy. But more than his career, it was his family that truly filled his heart. Fred was a family man in every sense of the word. He loved being surrounded by his children-Jennifer (Kevin) Conner, Philip (Phoebe) Qualls, and Gregory (Lisa) Qualls-and took immense pride in his grandchildren, including Hunter (Alexa) Carter (Hannah), Sadie (Edward), Jonathan (Marleigh), Jacob, Kourtney (Chance), Brooke, Dallas, Claire and Bayliegh, Colby, Kassie. He cherished every moment spent with them and his great-grandchildren, Tucker, Drew, Quinn, Levi, Jude, Connor, Grace, Lyla, and Sydney. He found joy in the simple things: catching an Astros game, attending church services at Houston River Baptist Church, and traveling whenever he had the chance. His warm spirit and love for life will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Fred is survived by his dear sister, Aloma Shelton, and a close-knit family that will carry on his legacy of love and laughter. Friends and family are invited to honor Fred's life during the funeral service, which will be held at Houston River Baptist Church on October 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Lonnie Gothrup. Prior to the service, there will be public visitations at the church on October 16 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on October 17 from 10:00 AM until the service begins. Following the service, Fred will be laid to rest at Mimosa Pine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; Jesse and Vanala Shine Qualls and three brothers.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Shannon Cassell with St. Joseph Hospice.
