Freddie Joe Royer Sr.

Iowa-Freddie Joe Royer, Sr., 78, passed away March 17, 2018 in Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans with his family by his side.

Joe was born in DeQuincy, LA on October 20, 1939 to the late Fred O. Royer and Evelyn Hoosier Royer. Joe graduated from DeQuincy High School and attended LSU. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley and together they began their life together in Florida. Joe began working for Florida Gas in Lakeland, FL, then went to work for Gulf Oil Co, moving his family to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, then San Tome, Venezuela. In 1970 Joe and Shirley returned to the U. S. and bought a home in Iowa, LA. Joe went to work for Conoco Pipeline becoming an Instrument 8 Supervisor traveling all over the United States on special projects for Conoco until his retirement. After taking a year off, Joe went to work as an Independent Field Service Engineer for Eaton Powerware and Eaton Electrical until his second retirement at age 74. Joe was a person that helped so many people.

He loved sports, following his sons to football games and track meets when James played football and Jody was a high jumper at McNeese. He was a big fan of LSU & the Saints. Joe was a Fourth Degree Knight, member of K of C 3006 and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.

Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Guillory Royer; 2 sons, Freddie Joe “Jody” Royer, Jr. (Claire) of Iowa, James Lesley Royer (Debbie) of Social Circle, GA; daughter, Kathryn Gay Royer Roussel (Ben) of New Orleans; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Royer Simmons (Zack) and Colin Royer, of Dallas, TX, Jules Murray Roussel, III (Davis) of New York, NY, Brandi Royer Bennett (Ryan) of Michigan, Chase Lesley Royer, and Alexandria Ann Royer of Atlanta, GA; 4 great-grandchildren, Chase Elizabeth “Tater” Royer of Atlanta, GA, Madeline Jade Bennett, McKenzie May Bennett, of Michigan, Lillyann Grace Royer of Atlanta, GA; sister, Judy Lorraine Royer Langford (Robert) of Navarre Beach, FL.

He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma Pitre Cochran of Iowa, Mary Nell Doucet and Velma Smith of Tee Mamou, LA, Riley Guillory (Nell) of Brazoria, TX, Arlen Guillory of Bell City, Joseph L. Guillory (Debbie) of Kinder; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friend, Peggy Meyers.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Colleen Royer Green; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Green, Eugene Yon, Harold Langley, Anthony T. Pitre, John Cochran, Phillip Doucet and Leon Smith; sisters-in-law, Loyce Berry Guillory, Margaret “Maggie” Langley and Ouida Guillory; mother and father-in-law, Adley & Eva Guillory.

Special thanks for their quick response to Acadian Ambulance Service and Iowa Police Department for their care and concern to get Joe to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

His cremation has been entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home – Iowa. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
