Freddy Bert Aven, 69, of Sulphur, LA, died at 5:55 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in his residence.
Mr. Bert was born June 17, 1947 in Orange, TX, where he lived until moving to Sulphur, LA seventeen years ago. He served his country from 1966-1968 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a millwright, retiring in 2014 from Westlake Chemical after twenty years of service and worked for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for almost ten years. Bert loved to watch television and had a big heart. He was always the provider for his family. He enjoyed going to farmer’s markets, telling jokes and loved babies.
Mr. Aven is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Mary Conner-Aven of Sulphur, LA; children, Anna Carlin of San Antonio, TX, Jonathan Carlin of Ragley, Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Carlin and wife Jennifer of DeRidder, LA, Cole Aven of Orange, TX, Denise Hyder and husband Greg of Dallas, TX, Bruce Aven and wife Mary Ann of Davie, FL, and Walter Aven and wife Stephanie of Dallas, TX; mother of his son Cole, Dee Aven of Orange, TX; brothers, Bob Aven and wife Nina of Orange, TX, Bill Aven and wife Kathy of Orange, TX, and Tom Aven and wife Vickie of Pearland, TX; his best friend, Larry Granger of Orange, TX; and sixteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. and Neva Tanton Aven; and son, Kevin Carlin.
His funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. George Milligan and Larry Granger will lead the service. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Sunday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
