Gale West Mcgee

August 2, 1946 — August 18, 2016

Gale West McGee, 70, was called to her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 18,  2016, following a long illness, while surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pine Prairie, Louisiana to Dillard and Evelyn Ardoin West, Mrs. McGee lived most of her life in Lake Charles.  She was a 1965 graduate of LaGrange High School and received her undergraduate degree and Master’s Degree in Education from McNeese State University.  She was an elementary school teacher and librarian at several local schools, including Washington Marion Elementary, Grienwich Village Elementary, and Vinton Elementary, retiring in 2008.  She was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where she served on the prayer team.  Mrs. McGee volunteered in different areas at OLQH School when her sons were in attendance.  Her sons were the light of her life.  She  enjoyed painting, reading, gardening, traveling to rodeos and sporting events with her sons, and spending valuable playtime with her grandson Talon.

Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her husband of forty-six years, Waylon Gale McGee; two sons, Chad Lane McGee and wife Michele and Blake Allen McGee and wife Anna of Iowa; one grandson, Talon McGee; one brother, Huey West and wife Brenda of Lake Charles; and one sister, Theresa Duplechain and husband Danny, also of Lake Charles.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Msgr. Danny Torres will officiate.  Entombment will be at Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., and will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
