We are sad to share that Gene McClenith Augustine, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 20, 1937, in Oberlin, LA, Gene was the son of Jessie James and Mary Usta Carrier Augustine.
Gene lived a full life, having grown up in Fenton where he developed a passion for electronics early on. By the age of 16, he completed a mail-order course in electronics, competed in FFA, and showcased his skills by wiring his parents' new home, earning a respectable 2nd place in a state contest. He didn't stop there-at 21, he became the only person to pass the Commercial Radio & TV test among 25 candidates. Gene's knack for memorization was legendary; in high school, he famously memorized 25 locker combinations!
After attending McNeese State University, Gene co-founded Iowa TV and Appliance with his close friend Sheldon Hebert, where they served the community for an impressive 63 years. He also owned rental properties, providing homes for many in the area.
Gene enjoyed the great outdoors, flying ultra-light airplanes, deer hunting, and was an expert marksman. He had a special interest in history, particularly WWII aircraft, with the P51 Mustang holding a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his son Blaine Augustine and his wife Pam, Mika Shawn Augustine, Chris Augustine, his sister Debbie Miller and husband Victor, brother Michael Augustine, grandchildren Brianna Beaugh and fiancé Trey, Brooklyn LaFleur and husband Blake, Chase Lambert, and Katelyn Carrier and husband Kenny, as well as great-grandchildren Ava Long, Braxton, and Brantley LaFleur. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gene is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane Pollock Oliver Augustine, his parents, Jessie James and Mary Usta Carrier Augustine and his grandson Trey Augustine.
To honor Gene's remarkable life, friends and family will gather for visitation at Johnson Funeral Home in Iowa on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, continuing on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2026, beginning at 9:00 AM. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the same location.
We want to extend heartfelt thanks to Mary Cormier for her compassionate care and to the entire All Saints Hospice team, who supported us during this time. Join us in celebrating Gene's incredible life and the memories we will cherish forever.
