Genevieve Mertzweiller LeJeune, 95, entered peacefully into heaven on February 8, 2017 at Resthaven Nursing Home. She was born in New Orleans, LA on September 24, 1921 to the late Bernard J. Mertzweiller, Sr. and Vivian Sarpy Mertzweiller. She moved to Lake Charles in 1939 and was of the Catholic Faith. She graduated from Vincent’s Business College and worked at Muller’s, The Boys’ Club and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Day Care.
She was a loving mother to her three daughters, Carol Norwood, wife of Earl Norwood, Jr.; Diane Lemke, wife of Ed Lemke; Barbara Stokeld, wife of Nolan Stokeld; and her adopted daughter, Barbara Hickman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight LeJeune; her devoted brother, Bernard J. Mertzweiller, Jr.; his wife Polly; and her loving sister, Ruth Madison, and her husband, Harold. She was blessed with eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Geneva Haymark, her devoted and loving friend of many years who was like a sister to her. "Mom" "Granny" was always there for her family and was the first one to help with any projects her family needed help with. Special love, appreciation and thanks to the nurses and staff at Resthaven Nursing Home for their love and care of "Miss Gen" all these years.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Margaret Catholic Church at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2017 under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM. A rosary will begin at 11:30 AM followed by a special service conducted by Ed Lemke in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret School Fund, 2500 Enterprise Blvd, Lake Charles, LA 70601 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 3717 Government Blvd, Alexandria, LA 71302 or your favorite charity.
