George "Bim" Celestine, 89, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026. Born on August 18, 1936, in Iowa, LA. George was a lifelong resident of the community he loved deeply and proudly called home. He was the beloved son of Arceneaux and Bertha Celestine.
George dedicated many years of hard work to Farmers Land & Canal Company, where he built a reputation as a dependable and hardworking man. He also faithfully served his community as a deputy with the Iowa Police Department, carrying himself with strength, respect, and integrity.
A true cowboy at heart, George found joy in rodeos, working cattle, and the simple pleasures of country life. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life and whom he loved dearly.
George never met a stranger. Known for his warm smile, kind heart, and generous spirit, he always opened his door to anyone in need. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing stories, or simply making others feel welcome, George left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Janice(Elrick)Broussard, Cornelia "Pokey" Celestine, Karen(Tony)Bernard, Berline(Kimmy)Bellard, and George Celestine Jr. ; his sisters, Georgianna "Meni" Simien, Agnes Simon, Stella Jean Roberts, and Mary "Poochie" Thomas; his brother,Tony Allen; his goddaughter, Donna Celestine, along with a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever treasure his love and presence.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Arceneaux and Bertha Celestine; his loving wife, Earlene Charles Celestine; his two beautiful daughters, Shirley Celestine and Farrah Celestine; his brothers, Wilfred Wilson, Raymond Celestine, Clifton Celestine, Austin Celestine, and Charles Celestine; and his sister, Frances Marshall.
George's legacy will live on through the love he shared, the wisdom he carried, and the countless lives he touched throughout his 89 remarkable years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.Visitation will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. George will be laid to rest at Lacassine Cemetery, with a repast to follow at KC Hall in Iowa, LA.
