Dr. George Wayne Hutchinson

Dr. George Wayne Hutchinson, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, surrounded by his family, on August 2, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on December 8, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana, George lived a life defined by service, compassion, faith, curiosity, and a steadfast devotion to his family and community.

George was raised on a farm in rural Tickfaw, Louisiana, in Tangipahoa Parish. He attended Independence High School before enrolling at Louisiana State University, where he studied pre-medicine. After graduating a year early, he continued his education at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, earning his medical degree in 1967. It was there that he met the love of his life, Myriam Cecilia, on a blind date.

Together they shared sixty-one wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on family and community. Their genuine love is a testament to unwavering commitment throughout every season of life.

Answering both a calling to medicine and a commitment to public service, George served as a Major in the United States Army from 1969 to 1974. Following his military service, the family made Lake Charles their home, where they established deep roots and became an integral part of the community.

For the next 33 years, George practiced Internal Medicine in Lake Charles, earning the trust and affection of generations of patients. He was admired not only for his medical expertise but also for the sincere care he showed every person who walked through his door. George believed medicine is as much about listening and building relationships as it is about diagnosis and treatment.

Beyond medicine, George embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. Possessing a keen intellect, boundless curiosity, and an infectious sense of humor, he pursued a wide range of interests. Those included woodworking, weaving, skiing, scuba diving, sailing, whitewater rafting, cooking, travel, gardening, book clubs, mahjong, Kiwanis, and especially singing in the church choir. He approached whatever captured his interest with vitality and an enduring love of learning.

Above all else, George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, finding great joy in their accomplishments and in the lives they built.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsey and Helen Hutchinson.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Myriam Cecilia Hutchinson; his children, Cecilia Hutchinson Reynolds (Benjamin), George Wayne “Hutch” Hutchinson, Jr. (Mónica Leprêtre), and Jeffrey Alan Hutchinson (Lana); his grandchildren, Gabriela, Luke, Nico, and Helen Jane “Janie”. Extended family members, close friends, former patients, and fellow parishioners will also miss him deeply.

George's life was one of purpose, generosity, and quiet excellence. He leaves behind a legacy of healing, service, and faith that will continue to live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held for family and friends at First United Methodist Church on Kirkman Street in Lake Charles on Friday, August 7, 2026, beginning at 12:30 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
