George W. Duchmann, Jr., 80, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. Duchmann was a native of New Orleans and had lived in Lake Charles since 1965. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked first with Freeport Sulphur Company, and then worked for Conoco Chemical Company for 26 years. The company's name changed during that time to Vista Chemical Company, and later to Sasol. He co-owned A+ Chemical Sales, Inc. with his wife, Joan Duchmann. He was a member of the Lake Charles Power Squadron for many years. He belonged to the Krewe de la Famille and St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. George loved to fish, and was an avid fan of LSU sports, as well as of New Orleans Saints football. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 33 years, Joan; children, Erich Duchmann and wife Brenda, Larry Duchmann, Eileen Duchmann, Laura Duchmann Savoy and husband Wade, Dr. Jay Carter and wife Debbie, and Melody Jackson and husband Dana; ten grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Gary Kohler and Leland Sonnier, RN at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and concern. Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, or to the charity of one's choice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Peter Cook will officiate. Burial will be held at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
