George Wilfred Trahan

March 1, 1927 — March 30, 2018

George Wilfred Trahan, age 91, died March 30, 2018 in his home.

 

He was a life-long native and resident of Lake Charles, La. George served in the US Navy then attended McNeese State University.  He was a supervisor for Vogeler Industries designing and rebuilding Naval Ships for refrigerated transport goods.  George at one time worked at PPG Industries as an electrician, he also helped form TESA of Calcasieu.  He was the owner of George's T.V. Inc, along with other businesses such as George's Real Estate and George's Boats, Inc.  At one time he owned G & L Construction Company and G & S Groceries.  He was on the advisory committee for Sowela Technical Institute and served as a member of the Calcasieu Parish Ward 3 Zoning Commission.  

 

George was very active in the community, his memberships included: L.C. Fire Prevention, American Legion, Gumbeaux International Fishing Club, YMBC Optimist Club, Chamber of Commerce, McNeese Cowboy Club, Lake Charles Racquet Club, and Lake Charles Country Club. He served on the board of Radio Free Europe. George loved sports and helped organize The Calcasieu Snow Ski Club in L.C. He participated in job training in electronics with Barbe High School. 

 

George was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas & Olive Trahan, his daughter Susan Trahan, his son Keith Trahan, his brothers, Bobbie & DJ Trahan, his sisters, Buhla, Betty Sue, and Gertrude. He is survived by his wife Sherry Armistead Trahan, step-daughter Julie and husband Hunter Lundy, sons, Brett & Mark Trahan. Brothers, Billy Lee, Jerry and Lynn.  Sisters, Joyce Simmons, JoAnn and husband Ronnie Butler. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and one great grandson.

We are very grateful for Heart Hospice of Lake Charles and all the nurses who came and assisted George with his illness. 

In lieu of flowers the family asked to consider a donation made to The McNeese State University Foundation.

Funeral Arrangements will be held on April 3, 2018 at Johnson's Funeral Home, visitation is from 4:00-5:30 followed by a Memorial Service from 5:30 - 6:00.
