Georgia Mary Thomas Simien, 90, of Lake Charles passed away at 3:33 AM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Simien was born on September 25, 1934 in Beaumont, TX and was raised in Iota, LA until moving to Lake Charles.
As a young girl in the 8th grade, she took on the responsibility of caring for her grandparents, placing their needs above her own and putting her education on hold. Despite these early sacrifices, she never gave up on her dreams. Later in life, through determination and hard work, she attended night classes and earned her GED. Upon graduation, she proudly received a letter from the school recognizing her as the top of her class—a moment that brought her and her family great pride.
She spent her working years as a housekeeper and nanny, lovingly caring for numerous children as if they were her own.
A devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church, her faith guided every step of her journey. She prayed the rosary four times a day—two in the morning and two in the afternoon—and found peace and purpose in her relationship with the Lord.
She was the heart of her family and adored her children and grandchildren deeply. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: dancing to zydeco music with her sons, enjoying Miller Lite, and cheering on her luck at the casino. Her home was filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals, with her famous sweet potato pies and handmade boudin becoming cherished family traditions.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Ann Simien of Beaumont, Bibble Joubert of Welsh, Jennifer Johnson of West Palm Beach, John (Sheila), David, Kenneth, and Ray Simien, and Margaret Gainous all of Lake Charles; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind a special caregiver and friend, Lilly Dennis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Simien; parents, Modest and Arthur Thomas, Sr; sister, Martha Thomas; and brothers, Lewis, Arthur, Tom, and John Thomas.
The family wishes to express a very special thank you to nurses, Santana Levias and Harley Rider, the nurses at Christus Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital ED units 31, 41, 51, and Dr. Burton, Dr. Davis, Dr. Chaudary, and Dr. Hanudel for their exceptional care that they gave to Mrs. Simien.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. The Rev. Josh Page will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until leaving for the church at 10:30 AM with a rosary being recited at 10:00 AM.
Pallbearers will be: Jared, Jason, and Kaylon Roberts, Brycen LeBlanc, Kecee Lewis, and Francis Abshire.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: John, Kenneth, Ray, David, John, Jr., Michael, Clint, and Delone Simien, Glenn Bruce, Shawn Okey, Chad Ellis, and Peter and Anthony Weldon.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for all the phone calls, texts, and visits. Our precious Mother was loved beyond measure.
