Gertrude Lavergne Carrier

March 7, 1929 — December 28, 2020

Lake Charles ~ Gertrude LaVergne Carrier, born March 7, 1929, daughter of the late Louis and Emithile (Thibodeaux) LaVergne, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020, at the age of 91.

Gertrude worked at Eastwood Elementary School in the cafeteria and as a salesperson for American Department Store. She and her late husband, Floyd owned Floyd’s Sausage Hut. Gertrude enjoyed sewing, working puzzles, trail rides and baby-sitting grand kids and baking her famous chocolate cake for birthdays and holidays. Gertrude attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Carrier; son, Robert “Bobby” Carrier and brother, Gervis LaVergne.

Survivors are her son, Ferdie and wife, Dean; daughter, Kathy Beard and husband, David; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Rev. Roland Vaughn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. and resume Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
