Glen Stewart Mears, Sr.

March 23, 1950 — May 14, 2026

Glen Stewart Mears, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Glen was born on March 23, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Leonard Ray Mears and Ann Marie Nichols Mears.

Glen proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded three Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifice. Following his military service, he continued serving his community with the Lake Charles Police Department for several years. In 1980, Glen began a distinguished career with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office, where he faithfully served for 50 years. Though he retired twice, his dedication to serving others always drew him back to work.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Glen served on Fire District 2 Board and was the leader of the Office of Emergency Preparedness. He was also a devoted member of Magnolia Baptist Church.

Glen had a lifelong passion for trains. He created a beautifully detailed train room and was even working on a book about trains. He loved visiting train museums and seemed to know the history and type of every train he encountered. His love for trains also helped him form a special bond with his step-great grandson. Above all else, Glen deeply loved his family and treasured the time spent with them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Leah Rebecca Karpe Mears; sons, Bryan Mears and Glen Stewart Mears Jr.; stepdaughter, Jennifer Werland and husband Michael; grandchildren, Brianna, Baily, and Bryson; step-great-grandchild, Caden Werland; brother, Jerry Mears; and sisters, Zelma "Kathy" Kiinzing and Pat Lick.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and continue Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Glen will be laid to rest at Consolata Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beauregard Officers Assistance Fund or the Louisiana State University Endowment under the Jason Scott McClaran Scholarship.
