Gloria “Gail” Bagwell, 78, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Sulphur, Louisiana. She was born April 13, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and raised in Big Woods. She later made her home in Sulphur, where she raised her family. After retiring, Gail spent several years enjoying life at Toledo Bend with her husband before recently returning to Sulphur to be closer to her family.
Gail spent many years owning and operating daycares. Some may remember the daycare she ran from her home on Elizabeth Street in Sulphur, while others knew her from Kinder Care in Lake Charles. Later, she once again opened her home, this time in Carlyss, to countless children. What began as a career in childcare became a lifelong part of who she was. Many of her daycare employees, children, and their parents remained close to her long after those years had passed.
Her Christian faith was deeply important to her and remained a constant throughout the years. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of Jesus.
To her family, she was Mom and “Gigi,” a name first given to her by her youngest sister and one that stayed with her throughout the years. Eventually, Gigi reached far beyond her own family, as many of the children and families who knew and loved her came to call her by the same name. She always enjoyed shopping, cooking, time with family, and especially watching her family grow through the years.
Gail will be remembered for her strength, her faith, and the unmistakable presence she brought to the lives of those who knew her. Her family will miss the everyday things that made her Gail- the familiar stories, meals around the table, time spent together, and simply knowing she was there. The many children and families who still remember “Miss Gail” years later are a special part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Gail is survived by her daughters, Melanie St. Pierre Fruge and husband Tim, and Amy St. Pierre McDonald and husband Mike; her grandchildren, Jacob Fruge and Sam, Courtney Welch and Weston, Joel Fruge, Mason, Andi, and Avery McDonald; her great-grandchildren, Ryder, Elliott, Landry Jo, and Callahan Fruge, and Walker Welch; her siblings, Dale Williams and Georgia, Stanley Williams and Vicky, Deborah Fox, Sidney Williams and Janelle, and Rhonda King and Gary; her sister-in-law, Chako Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bagwell; her parents, Robert and Gloria Williams; her brother, Bryan Williams; and her son, Mark St. Pierre.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Gail. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the time of service. Gail will be laid to rest at a later date.
